Exposure visit at Nambikkai Alayam

A Report on the Visit to Nambikkai Alayam, Kazhuvanthittai on 17-12-2024 as part of II MA English academic curriculum. The primary aim of the visit was to engage with the students of the school, bring joy through interactive activities, and extend financial support to the institution.
The journey commenced at 8:15 a.m. with a formal prayer led by the Principal, Rev. Fr. Dr. Michael Aro SDB. After a short briefing and blessings, the students and faculty set out on the trip with great enthusiasm. The team reached Nambikkai Alayam at 9:45 a.m.
Nambikkai Alayam is a special school that caters to the needs of 60 children with varying levels of intellectual disabilities. The institution provides care, education, and training tailored to the children’s abilities, fostering their development and self-reliance.
The program began with a warm welcome and a formal address by the principal of Nambikkai Alayam, who appreciated the efforts of the college students in planning the visit. Following the principal’s speech, the session was handed the students, who conducted various activities to engage and entertain the children.
The program began with a heartfelt prayer song performed by the college students to set a positive and inclusive tone.
A variety of simple and fun games were organized, encouraging active participation from the children. These games were designed to accommodate their abilities and ensure inclusivity.
The students narrated short and engaging stories, keeping the children captivated and involved.
The children participated enthusiastically, showcasing their joy and excitement. The interactive session provided a meaningful connection between the college students and the children, fostering empathy and mutual respect.
At the end of the program, the college team exchanged sweets with the children, spreading cheer and happiness. As a token of support, the students and faculty collectively donated ₹7,000 to the school to aid its efforts in supporting the children’s needs.
The visit concluded at 12:30 p.m., and the team departed from the school with fond memories and valuable experiences.
Visit to Thirparappu Waterfalls
On their way back, the team made a brief stop at Thirparappu Waterfalls, arriving at 1:30 p.m. The students and faculty enjoyed the scenic beauty of the waterfalls, which served as a refreshing end to the trip.
The team reached the college safely by 3:30 p.m., concluding a day filled with meaningful interactions, learning, and recreation.
The visit to Nambikkai Alayam was an enriching experience for the II PG English students. It offered an opportunity to interact with children with special needs and understand their unique challenges and strengths. The activities conducted during the visit not only entertained the children but also brought immense joy to the students, leaving a lasting impact on their minds and hearts. The trip also reinforced the values of compassion, social responsibility, and inclusivity among the students.
