The Diocese of Thuckalay, since its establishment, has been pondering over the thought of extending its educational outreach in the field of higher education. Mar George Alencherry, the first bishop of the diocese, had been trying to find an appropriate location for the establishment of an institution for higher education. Several locations were explored and inspected with the help of priests and lay leaders of the Diocese.
The College is named after its heavenly patron, Saint Alphonsa of Bharananganam. She was the first women of Indian origin to be canonized as a saint by the Catholic Church. Hers was a life of love and prayer which has inspired thousands who seek her intercession.
