The Department of English organized a guest lecture on "Echoes of Empire: Voices from the Postcolonial World" on 12th August 2025 in the Conference Hall. A total of 58 students from both UG and PG have actively participated in the program. The event commenced sharply at 10:15 a.m. with a soulful prayer song rendered by the college choir, setting a reverent tone for the session. Ms. Aswini, a first-year M.A. student, warmly welcomed the gathering. Following this, the dignitaries lit the ceremonial lamp, signifying the inauguration of the event. Rev. Dr. Angelo Joseph SDB, Principal of the college, delivered the inaugural address, highlighting the relevance of postcolonial studies in understanding literature through a global lens. Dr. V. S. Bindhu, Head of the Department of English, elaborated on the objectives of the program and the significance of theoretical frameworks in literary studies.
The convenor of the program, Dr. Jeya Prabhila M. J., introduced the distinguished chief guest, Dr. A. Xavier Chandra Bose, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of English, Lekshmipuram College of Arts and Science, Neyyoor. After a short refreshment break, Dr. Xavier Chandra Bose commenced his session. His lecture was intellectually stimulating and highly engaging, as he effectively simplified complex postcolonial theories, making them easily comprehensible for the students. Using relatable life examples and literary references, he explored themes such as marginalization, the peripheral experience, colonial impact, the Eurocentric worldview, and their historical underpinnings. The session concluded at 1:00 p.m., leaving the participants with deeper insights into postcolonial discourse. Ms. Dona (III UG) and Ms. Jeniliya (II UG) shared their feedback, expressing appreciation for the clarity and depth of the lecture. The program concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Arish Dona (III UG). The event was efficiently compered by Ms. Axlin Silja (I PG) and Ms. Rashika (I UG). The guest lecture proved to be a valuable academic experience, enriching the participants’ understanding of postcolonial literature and its critical dimensions.
